Watch the 40-second refill tutorial
Before refilling: Refill only when cool, in a well-ventilated area away from flames, sparks and hot surfaces. Persistent hissing or gas smell: stop. Do not ignite or adjust a lighter with a suspected leak.
Demonstrated model: G17. Applicable models: G17, G26 and M18. Video length: approximately 40 seconds.
Watch the 40-second refill video on its dedicated page (G17 demonstration; guidance also applies to G26 and M18).
This video guide covers butane refilling for ZHONG LONG G17, G26 and M18 lighters. The demonstration shows the G17. Check your model’s supplied instructions before starting, as controls and fittings can differ. All three models ship without fuel.

Follow the demonstration
- 0:12–0:18: Butane can and plastic adapter.
- 0:20: Turn the lighter upside down.
- 0:22–0:24: On-screen 5–6-second refill instruction.
- 0:28: Rest for two full minutes.
- 0:30–0:34: Troubleshooting; follow the safety clarification above and step 5 below.
- 0:36–0:40: Ventilation and keeping away from flames.
1. Prepare the lighter and workspace
Make sure the flame is extinguished and the lighter is cool. Work in a well-ventilated area away from smoking, flames, sparks and hot surfaces. Keep children away. Inspect the body and refill valve; do not fill a lighter that is damaged or appears to be leaking.
2. Check the butane and adapter
Use butane intended for refillable lighters and compatible with your model. The video uses a red plastic adapter and instructs you not to insert a bare metal can nozzle directly into the refill valve. Use an adapter that fits both your can and lighter: its red color alone does not establish compatibility. Do not force a poorly fitting nozzle or adapter.
3. Align the valve and refill
At 0:20, the lighter is turned upside down. Keep the adapter aligned with the refill valve and hold the lighter away from your face and clothing. The video specifies a 5–6-second press for its demonstrated setup. This is not a universal filling time: follow your lighter and fuel-can instructions. Do not overfill or force the connection. Stop if fuel sprays around the valve or the connection does not fit securely.
4. Wait before testing
The video says to rest the lighter for two full minutes. Leave it upright in a ventilated location, away from the fuel can and ignition sources. Wait longer if the model instructions require it or the lighter remains cold. Do not attempt ignition if you notice continued hissing or a persistent fuel smell.
5. Check safely if it does not light
Failure to ignite does not automatically mean the flame setting needs adjustment. First follow the stop conditions above. Only when the flame is extinguished and there are no signs of leakage should you make small adjustments, following the supplied instructions. Do not simply “open” the adjustment fully or repeatedly click a lighter that smells of gas. If it still does not work, contact support.
